Bathrooms have gone through dramatic changes over the years. Previously appreciated for little more than their functionality, today these rooms are becoming oases of peace, relaxation and comfort. This year will take that satisfying sensation to a whole different level, with great new trends. Of course, some of the tendencies we’ve seen in the previous couple of years are still going strong, according to Eaglewood Homes, but there will also be a lot of new and unexpected moments.
Here are some of the top trends to think about if you are considering a bathroom remodel in 2017.
When it comes to tiles, this year is all about going big or going home. This trend is first practical, and only then visual. Large tiles will make bathroom cleaning easier, since there will be less grout. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t also offer some benefits when it comes to aesthetics. Large tiles mean that the bathroom is covered with clean, almost uninterrupted surfaces, making the room feel bigger. Not only tiles, but also slabs of natural stone and marble will make a huge splash in bathrooms.
Although Pantone’s color of the year caught us by surprise, we’ve gotten used to it; and with the arrival of spring, it will become even more popular. Using Greenery in the bathroom makes perfect sense – it will refresh the room, induce it with nature and give a bold statement. You can go as far to use green tiles or simply paint the vanity green and use a green runner.
Both of these trends have visited other rooms in the house a while back, but only now, they are making their mark on the bathroom. This design approach encourages recycling and repurposing, which makes it an affordable style to introduce. You can introduce it with exposed brick, concrete accents, exposed pipes, worn woods, and various accessories, such as old posters, metallic soap holders, etc.
In the last couple of years, bathroom renovations are becoming more organic than ever, and that includes using a lot of natural materials, such as wood and stone, and, as of recently, clay. Besides the materials, the very shapes in the bathroom have changed, the tubs are designed with more curves, while the vanity is more textured. Warm wood and smart stone make ideal marriage when it comes to bathroom elements.
Although gold and brass will still be featured in the bathroom design, they will slowly, but definitely be outplayed by a new player – dark metal tones. Bronze, dark pewter and even matte black are there to bring a modern touch to your bathroom, unlike the shiny metals that mostly emitted the retro vibe. However, if you’re aspiring to create an eclectic look, you’ll be happy to know that dark metals mix great with shiny ones.
Large showers with multiple showerheads have been a bathroom standard for years now, mostly for practical reasons. Since we’re living in a time when the bathroom’s purpose is finally much more than personal hygiene, it is logical to experience the comeback of the tub (especially freestanding variety) as an element for relaxing. The tub of 2017 is inviting, desirable, and elegantly shaped.
Besides the tub that calls for a good long soak, this year will be all about making you never want to leave your bathroom. Everything that makes you feel like you’re in a spa is welcomed. Potted plants, green walls, sitting area, and soft rug, come to mind among other things.
Bathroom remodeling in 2017 will be inspired mostly by nature, low-maintenance and relaxation. It is interior designers’ response to the hectic life pace in urban environments. People need the time to spoil themselves, de-stress and prepare for everything waiting outside – there is no better place for that than the bathroom.
